GARFIELD FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

Open position for Pastor of Youth Ministry.  This is a full-time position.

Functional Area
Youth (7th-12th Grade), Ministry Staff
Reports to Senior Pastor, in coordination with Personnel Committee
Salary adjusted based on qualifications.

OVERALL POSITION OBJECTIVE
Work with Senior Pastor to provide a safe, Christ-centered environment in which students (seventh grade through high school) are equipped to know and to make known Jesus Christ.

GENERAL/REGULAR RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs the Student Ministry
1.  Plan and coordinate Wednesday night Bible study and activities for students.
2.  In cooperation with Discipleship Ministries, direct student Sunday School teachers and curriculum/programming.
3.  Plan and coordinate all student ministry events and trips.
4.  Plan and coordinate student ministry needs.
5.  In cooperation with budget and finance, coordinate budgeting, music, and events for youth ministries.
6.  Perform any other duties assigned by Senior Pastor.

Responsible for following committee:  Student Ministry Leadership team(s)

Miscellaneous
1.  This position is currently being advertised as full-time salaried position
2.  While the above "duties list" is representative of the regular duties of this position, the list is not intended to be exhaustive.  As a staff member, day-to-day and week-to-week responsibilities will likely include unforeseen activities that do not fit neatly into the student/youth category.

DESIRED CHARACTER TRAITS
1.  This person would have an unswerving personal belief in the Triune nature of God, inerrancy of the Bible, existence of a literal heaven and hell, and the need for all to trust in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin.
2.  This person should have a sense of God's divine calling to local church ministry, with (ideally) this calling having been affirmed by the Church through testimony and/or ordination.  He would understand that ministry is a calling, not simply a job.
3.  In the grace of God, this person would be an individual who authentically hungers to know God and to make Him known.  He would be a self-starter who is humble, teachable, and a team-player.
4.  He would possess a genuine love for students and their parents that motivates caring, compassion, patience, and attentiveness.
5.  Administrative ability to organize, plan, and execute both short and long-term events.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES
1.  Administrative ability to assess needs, work with others to formulate a response, and execute that plan.
2.  Skill to plan a meeting agenda and lead others through it.
3.  Comfort speaking to groups of various sizes.
4.  Basic knowledge of office computer software (Microsoft or comparable) to perform tasks such as word processing and email.
5.  Administrative ability to organize, plan, and execute both short and long-term events.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Education: pursuit or completion of a college degree; ministry degree preferred.

Experience: teaching/communicating Biblical truths; planning a wide range of activities/events for students/families; serving on a local church staff; coordinating ministry with/to lay leadership.
